Dear conference participants,
It was great to see you all in Banff for the 2nd Banff Conference on Plant Metabolism! Official attendance was 173 people representing 14 nations (Australia, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, France, Germany, Israel, Italy, Japan, Netherlands, Poland, Switzerland, UK and USA). With two keynote lectures, 16 plenary talks, 37 contributed talks and 93 posters we heard a lot of excellent science over the four days.

Intellectual Property Survey
Tania Bubela (University of Alberta) presented on the importance of intellectual property and genetic resource agreements for plant metabolism researchers. If you haven’t already done so, please complete the online survey at: http://fluidsurveys.com/surveys/phytometasyn/phytometasyn-survey/. Filling out the survey will enter you in a draw for a $250 (or equivalent in international currency) gift certificate at Amazon. Deadline for the survey is August 6, 2010.
Photos and Feedback on Facebook
We have created a Facebook page for the meeting and posted the pictures that we have under the photos tab. If you have other photos you would like to post please send them to plantmet@ucalgary.ca and Sue-Ann will post them. Feel free to also tag the pictures if you know the people in them. You can also post comments about the meeting on our Wall.
“Gophers” at the Banff Centre
Many of you asked about the cute furry animals residing in the lawn near our banquet room. Apparently they are not gophers (or even rats as some seemed to think…) but Columbian Ground Squirrels – see http://www.pc.gc.ca/eng/pn-np/ab/banff/natcul/natcul5.aspx.
3rd Banff Conference on Plant Metabolism – Summer 2012
The next conference will take place at The Banff Centre in Summer 2012. Joerg Bohlmann (University of British Columbia) will chair the conference together with Dae-Kyun Ro (University of Calgary). If you enjoyed the summer’s conference, please spread the word to your colleagues and co-workers. Although we don’t want this event to grow beyond a friendly, collegial meeting for the plant metabolism community, there is still room for our conference to grow.
We hope to see you all in Banff in two years’ time.
Best regards,
The Organizing Committees
