OCTOBER Sunday, 17 October, 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. Joint Event with the Archives of the City of Ottawa Phil Jenkins, Here to Stay: An immigrant's personal view of Ottawa, 1951-2010 Followed by the FCOA AGM. Location: Colonel By Room, 2nd Floor, Ottawa City Hall, 110 Laurier Avenue West. No charge; donations welcome. Phil Jenkins is a prolific local author, advocate, historian and columnist whose family immigrated to Canada in 1951. Tuesday, 26 October, 7:00 - 10:00 p.m. Joint Event with the Archives of the City of Ottawa Your Digital Photo Collection: Tips for organizing and preserving electronic images An awareness session for the amateur photographer, with practical presentations by a number of experts from some of Ottawa's largest heritage preservation institutions. Location: Ben Franklin Place (former Council Chambers), 101 Centrepointe Drive, Ottawa. Cost: $30. Advance registration and payment will be required. To express interest in attending or to obtain further information, contact David Bullock at 613-839-2479 or bullocknunn@rogers.com NOVEMBER Tuesday, 9 November, 7:30 p.m. Joint Event with the Polish Embassy Hugh Halliday, Mission to Warsaw - Planes, Penicillin and Politics Two plaques - in Ottawa and Warsaw - commemorate sacrifice and endeavour when Canada, through the Red Cross and the RCAF, emerged as an international humanitarian in 1945-1946. Location: Embassy of the Republic of Poland, 443 Daly Avenue, Ottawa. Cost: $10. Registration required: contact Cornelius at cvb@magma.ca or 613-730-5184. Hugh Halliday is retired from the Canadian War Museum, and the author or compiler of several books on RCAF history and airmen. He is also an authority on awards and decorations.
