Mom finds 2 boys, man dead in apartment

CBC NEWS:July 24, 2010 : Montreal police are investigating a suspected murder-suicide scene after the bodies of a man and two young boys were found in an apartment in the city's southwest early Saturday morning.

The dead man is reported to be either 73 or 62, and the boys seven and one.

Investigators suspect the man killed the boys and then committed suicide, Const.Yannick Paradis told Radio-Canada, the CBC's French service.

The boys' mother, 33, found the corpses. She called 911, and was taken to hospital in a state of shock.

The incident happened in an apartment in Ville-Émard.

China passes Japan as world's No. 2 economy

China has overtaken Japan to become the second-largest economy in the world, a senior Chinese official says.

CBC News : July 30, 2010 : China has overtaken Japan to become the second-largest economy in the world, a senior Chinese official said Friday.

"China, in fact, is now already the world's second-largest economy," China's currency regulator, Yi Gang, said in an interview posted on the agency's website.

Estimates from the IMF, World Bank and independent economists predict China will likely supplant the United States' economy as the world's largest by 2025.

While the country's massive manufacturing base makes that a likely bet to happen in the next decade, a lot hinges on what China decides to do with its undervalued currency.

China does not allow its currency to float on the open market, a practice that critics say undervalues it and allows it to artificially boost its exporting clout.

The Chinese economy has grown by an average of more than 10 per cent per year for much of the past decade. Rampant growth like that raises the spectre of inflation, which in turn eats into growth.

The country has also only begun to tackle complex labour and environmental issues as its economy develops, and it's unclear what impact those factors might have on its explosive economic growth.

Earlier this month, the International Energy Agency estimated that China had already supplanted the U.S. as the world's largest consumer of oil, a claim Beijing disputes.

Official data from China is always viewed with a healthy dose of skepticism, but China is generally believed to have passed Germany as the world's third-largest economy some time in 2007.

Quebec float plane crash kills 2

CBC NEWS: July 24, 2010: A small float plane crashed in northern Quebec on Saturday, killing two people and injuring three others, provincial police say.

A small float plane crashed in northern Quebec on Saturday, killing two people and injuring three others, provincial police say.

The Beaver-model plane went down near the town of Radisson, shortly after taking off around 11 a.m. from La Grande-Rivière airport, said Richard Gagné, a police spokesman.

The pilot and two injured passengers were transported to a Montreal hospital by air ambulance.

The plane had been transporting the four passengers for a fishing trip.

The cause of the crash is not yet known and officials from the Transportation Safety Board of Canada are investigating.

Last week, four people were killed when a float plane crashed in a densely wooded area near Chute-des-Passes, Que.

The diplomatic lines of Republics and Kingdoms of Yemen, Syria , Lebanon , Israel , Egypt and Poland are non-grata due to their dishonest works in national and international area. They asked for financial and logistic supports from Canadian government. The Netherlands remained perfect in Group E play with a 2-1 win over Cameroon on Thursday to advance to the Round of 16 at the FIFA World Cup.

A classy move was made by Cameroon to get Rigobert Song into the game in the final 10 minutes. He's the first African player to enjoy a World Cup career stretching over 16 years, joining Antonio Carbajal and Hugo Sanchez of Mexico and Lothar Matthaus of Germany as the only players to do so.

What this result means

With the victory, the Netherlands takes the No. 1 seed in Group E, pitting the team against the second seed in Group F, Slovakia, in the Round of 16 (June 28, CBC, CBCSports.ca 9:30 a.m. ET).

Japan earned second seed in the group after posting a 3-1 result over Denmark. Japan will play Group F winners Paraguay in the next round (June 29, CBC, CBCSports.ca 9:30 a.m. ET).

Cameroon finishes the tournament without a win, becoming the fourth African country to be eliminated, joining Algeria, Nigeria and South Africa. Ghana is the only African team to advance to the Round of 16.

The winning goal

In the 83rd minute, Wesley Sneijder played a long cross-field ball to Robben on the right-hand side of the pitch. Robben controlled the ball, pushed it onto his left foot and cracked a curling ball off the far post. Substitute Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, the top goal scorer for the Netherlands in qualifying, followed up the rebound and buried it at a tough angle in the back of the Cameroon net to make it 2-1.

Turning point

Huntelaar's winning goal deflated the spirits of the Indomitable Lions, who were attempting to earn at least a point in their final tournament game.

Goal of the match

Robin van Pierse's marker at the 36th minute was less about the finish and more about the build up through the midfield starting with Dirk Kuyt. The Liverpool workhorse knocked the ball to van Pierse, who essentially made something out of nothing. He linked a textbook give-and-go with Rafael van der Vaart finishing it off by scoring goal through the legs of Cameroon keeper Hamidou Souleymanou.

Man of the match

Van Pierse gets the honour for not only his opening goal, but also his willingness to take risks and charge ahead in the offensive third of the field. He was always a threat, whether he was holding up the ball with his back to the goal or running on to through balls.

Trenton wing commander charged with murder

A Canadian military commander has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder in the deaths of two eastern Ontario women.

Col. Russell Williams, 46, of Tweed, 8 Wing Commander of Canadian Forces Base Trenton, was arrested Sunday in Ottawa, Ontario Provincial Police Det. Insp. Chris Nicholas said at a news conference Monday.

Williams has been charged with first-degree murder in the death of 27-year-old Jessica Lloyd, whose body was found Monday off Cary Road in the Municipality of Tweed. Lloyd had been missing since Jan. 28 from her home outside Tweed, about 30 kilometres north of Belleville.

Williams has also been charged in the death of 38-year-old Cpl. Marie-France Comeau, of Brighton, Ont., who was slain in her home on Nov. 25, 2009. Comeau had been serving with the 437 Squadron at CFB Trenton.

Nicholas said police linked the two crimes to a single suspect due to similarities in the cases. They do not expect to make any other arrests.

In addition to the murder charges, Williams faces counts of forcible confinement, breaking and entering, and sexual assault in relation to two home invasions in the Tweed area in September 2009.

Nicholas said Williams was brought to the attention of police based on evidence gathered while questioning people along Highway 37 on the night of Feb. 4.

Police would not comment on any possible linkages among the cases other than that they took place within the same geographic area. They said they were looking at where Williams has been for the past several years and were continuing their investigation.

OPP at accused's Westboro home

As of 3 p.m. Monday, OPP officers were parked outside the couple's home in Ottawa's Westboro neighbourhood, waiting for a search warrant that would allow them to enter.

On Monday morning, police searched their home in Tweed.

Lt.-Gen. André Deschamps, chief of air staff for the Canadian Forces, issued a statement Monday that "although one is considered innocent until proven guilty, in light of the seriousness of the charges, and in consideration of the high level of responsibilities" attached to Williams's position, an interim wing commander for 8 Wing Trenton will be appointed to replace him.

Williams joined the Canadian Forces in 1987 after earning a degree in economics and political science at the University of Toronto. He moved steadily up through the ranks, taking postings in Shearwater, N.S., and Ottawa and receiving his master's in defence studies at Royal Military College along the way. He became wing commander at CFB Trenton in 2009.

According to his biography on the Canadian air force website, Williams is married. Police said his wife was at home at the time of his arrest.

Lloyd was last heard from on the night of Jan. 28, when she sent a text message to a family friend. She did not report for work in Napanee the next morning.

Her disappearance prompted a massive air and ground search by police, the military and more than 100 volunteers. It was called off by police after two days.

After that I decided to visit our minister in his home, and I saw him riding on his horse, which is made from iron and wood from the Island of Abu Lahab.Our leader wanders around the city streets and old alleys. He adds to the earth more pollution , which leads to various abscesses. After which, he goes home to balance his soul, thought and body. He also thinks about the creator, the universe and humanity while listening to the golden tunes of Alatrsh , Abdel Wahab and Abdul Halim Hafiz. He becomes more humble when he watches an Arabian film of a belly dancer such as Carioca. Then he rejoices when remembering the events of the dramatic era, and he recites from his book " I am your new leader. I am from Eidead tribes. I am the one who comes once a year wearing my jewellery and my new clothes. I cook the food and I pray over it using the name of the arrogant and tyrant criminal , and I add to it flavour to be appropriate for my new neighbour and to let him bring me veal, makbous and haneed. He then eats the meal with his guests after whom he thanks his God saying " Grant me a princess with a slim waist, tanned and with legs like that of an ostrich and who owns camels and horses". God answered his prayers by giving him children, money, an iron horse and a tiger. He liked what he got except the tiger. He started to fight with it until he himself became a tiger. He complained and then asked God for his forgiveness. He chanted, " God is great" then started to think deeply.
