This 80-minute-long documentary that tells the story of Nicola Sacco and Bartolomeo Vanzetti, two Italian immigrant anarchists who were accused of a murder in 1920, and executed in Boston in 1927 after a notoriously prejudiced trial. It is the first major documentary film about this landmark story.

The ordeal of Sacco and Vanzetti came to symbolize the bigotry and intolerance directed at immigrants and dissenters in America, and millions of people in the U.S. and around the world protested on their behalf. Nearly eighty years later, the story continues to have great resonance, as America once again grapples with issues of civil liberties and the rights of immigrants.

The case of two Italian-born anarchists, executed for a murder they almost surely didn’t commit, remains the definitive, scary myth of the promise of America snuffed by fear and loathing. It’s cleansing to see the facts laid out with intimacy and rigor, and the film earns the comparison it makes to the squelching of due process for some of today’s terror suspects. The difference is that Americans during the ’20s took to the streets to protest the railroading of two innocent men. Would that happen now?

Some of the most renowned thinkers of the day spoke out against the prejudice surrounding the trial, such as Upton Sinclair and Walter Lippmann. Fifty years later, a Massachusetts government commission confirmed the trial had been unfair and Governor Michael Dukakis declared a “Sacco and Vanzetti Memorial Day.”

The trial and media coverage focused on the political ideology of the two men, treating as secondary the material evidence related to the crime itself. The two men were members of the Galleanist Anarchist movement, and the trial was a watershed moment in the campaign to delegitimize the global anarchist movement as a whole.

Sacco and Vanzetti come to Ottawa

On Saturday, Ottawa police announced the charging of three well-known Ottawa activists in connection with the May 18th arson of a branch of the Royal Bank of Canada. What follows is not a comment on the event in question, nor the guilt or innocence of the accused, but a condemnation of the treatment of the accused by the media and Ottawa police.

Much like Sacco and Vanzetti before them, these three are already receiving prejudicial media coverage. An inordinate amount of time and column inches are being dedicated to the activism that the three were known for. The CBC, for example, reported on Claude Haridge’s participation in a Palestinian rights march, and his attendance at the so-called 'Activism Course' hosted by former University of Ottawa professor Denis Rancourt. Rancourt has accused the CBC of insinuating this is evidence against the three.

The RBC arson was clearly a political act, as evidenced by the video that was released with it. Therefore, the politics of any suspect are a relevant discussion. But that discussion should not replace discussion about the material evidence, much less be presented as evidence in and of itself. Nor should it come at the cost of media oversight of the police investigation.

Ottawa Police fan the flames

The Ottawa Police have added to the show-trial appearance of the case. The original statement from the Ottawa Police, during a Saturday morning press conference, was that .50 caliber "sniper-style" ammunition was recovered during a raid of Haridge's home. The police sent out a release later in the day to say that the ammunition was actually 7.62mm. Both kinds of bullets are legal, but 7.62mm ammo is not used in sniper rifles.

It’s difficult to believe that trained firearm users, like police detectives, could confuse the drastically different looking bullets (see picture). Less believable still that such an error could make it into an important press conference. Const. Katherine Larouche, spokesperson for the Ottawa Police, told me that the bullets were found in a case marked “.50 cal,” which led to the erroneous press release. When asked if that meant the police didn't open the case before reporting their findings to the media, she declined to comment.

Many media outlets did correct the error, many didn't. Regardless, the damage has been done. Haridge will be thought of as a potential sniper and few will read the corrections.

During the press conference, the police also made a point of calling the bullets "military-grade". The ammunition expert I spoke to was surprised by the use of this term. Under international law, military ammunition must be 'jacketed' to stop bullets from exploding inside the victim. Thus they are less dangerous than other forms of ammo, such as hunting ammo that is designed to kill an animal as fast as possible. It is unclear why the police would use such a misleading term, but the media ate it up nonetheless.

Adding to the police's influence on the public's perception of the accused--keep in mind that it's the Ottawa public that will eventually form the sitting jury--are statements by Ottawa Police Chief Vern White. White has publicly called for the RCMP to file terrorism charges against the three, referring to the accused as "domestic terrorists." Lawrence Greenspon, lawyer for one of the accused, believes the police chief is acting irresponsibly, given that civilian life was not the target of the attack. Direct or indirect targetting of civilians is a necessary factor in most definitions of terrorism. However, Canada's controversial post-9/11 anti-terrorism law is much more ambiguous on this point.

"The charges are essentially damage-to-property-related charges," Greenspon told the Ottawa Citizen. "There's no talk of terrorism by anybody except our chief of police."

Greenspon also scolded federal Public Safety Minister Vic Toews. Toews held a news conference on Saturday in which he said:

"The dedication and tireless work of police has once again succeeded in making our communities safer."

Greenspon accused Toews of violating the accused's right to the presumption of innocence.

Police and media endangering G-20 protesters

The treatment of the case by media and authorities has not only jeopardized the right to due process, but also the safety of protesters descending on Toronto this week for the G20. In their Saturday evening report on the ammunition discovery, CTV News--Canada's most watched national newscast--reported that "police say (the ammunition discovery) could indicate the kind of violence to expect at next week's summits."

The Globe and Mail--Canada's most-read daily newspaper--ran an article by Colin Freeze which reported that, “the seizure (of ammunition) is stoking police fears about what they could be up against when protesters amass during the G8/G20 summits next week.”

Some are viewing these statements as pre-justification for repression by the Toronto Police. This becomes very worrisome when viewed alongside the force's recent history of brutality, including accusations of murder in the death of Junior Manon on May 5th.

Let's put this into context: thousands of justifiably angry marchers, artists, journalists, parents, children, and others with grievances surrounding the G-8/G-20 summits are being targeted because legal ammunition was found on one man who should be presumed innocent until proven guilty.

This narrative was seeded by Ottawa Police Chief White. “I ask Ottawa residents to remain vigilant, before and during the G8-G-20, and continue to report any suspicious activity to police,” reads the lone quote attributed to White in the force's first press release on the arrests. At the police's Saturday press conference, representatives of the Toronto Police were present. A five-hour drive from their jurisdiction, no reason was given for their participation, but the effect was to reinforce the connection between the Ottawa arrests and the activists in the streets of Toronto. A connection that appears in every single report on the arrests that I have encountered.

The irresponsibility of the media lies not in reporting these police statements, but in doing so without a hint of analysis on either the logic or the consequences these statements can have.

Anyone remember Montebello?

While the media and police give credence to an irrational fear of protesters, they ignore the very real security concerns of those in the street. Worries that are founded in recent history.

In 2007, the Sûreté du Québec (Quebec’s provincial police force) were discovered mobilizing rock-wielding agents provocateurs at the Security and Prosperity Partnership meeting in Montebello (see video here, and police admission here. That same day, thousands of peaceful protesters were tear-gassed, shot with rubber bullets, and beaten by hundreds of police officers. No government inquiry was ever opened to determine the source of the order to send rock-carrying officers into the crowd. No member of government or police was ever disciplined. Numerous social justice and civil liberties groups screamed about the precedent the lack of accountability would set for future convergences.

Enter the G-8/G-20, the first conference of international heads of state in Canada since Montebello. Sid Ryan, president of the Ontario Federation of Labour, suggested provocateurs might be used again to incite violence. Violence that might be interpreted by the media as justification for the conference's controversial $1 billion security budget. The head of the Toronto Police Association, Mike McCormack, responded by calling for Ryan's resignation, adding that "(Ryan) should be writing fiction because obviously he isn’t dealing with reality."

The Harper administration has ignored requests for a pledge that provocateurs won't be used this week like they were in 2007.

For those opposing the G-20, silence at a moment like this is a return to the age of Sacco and Vanzetti. Will we have to wait another 50 years for an admission of misconduct?

لست أدري من أين أبدأ مقالي عن عاشق الأفخاذ وقت الشدائد والمحن الا وهو الرئيس الفرنساوي نيكولا ساركوزي، فلقد رمى هذا السيد بكل مبادئ الثورة الفرنسية وكذلك كل القيم الاخلاقية والمتمثلة بالحرية والعدل والاخاء والمساواة واحترام القوانين والدساتير الى محيطه، اتحاده المتوسطي الجديد الملوث بكل ميكروبات وفيروسات الدهر ليطفو هو الاخر فوق تلك المخلفات ويستمتع بروائحه ويتغذى من بقايا اجساده، فالسيد الفرنساوي مصاب بداء العظمة والشيزوفرينيا، فهو المتجاهل لأصوله المهاجرة، ويمارس العلو والتمييز ضد المهاجرين الذين قدموا الى فرنسا بعد الحرب العالمية الثانية، وشاركوا في بنائها وتشييدها، ففرنسا تتجاهل حقوق المهاجرين الاقتصادية والسياسية والثقافية والاجتماعية، وترمى بعيوبها وعجزها على ظهر ذلك الحلف المسمى باتحاد المشرق الاوسطي الجديد.

ونرى أن الحجاب اصبح لفرنسا أهم قضايا العصر وكذلك للدول ذات الرصيد الأخلاقي السيء وللدول الجاهلة والمتجاهلة لتعاليم الدين الذى اساسه الله الحق والعدل والحرية من اجل رفاه البشرية في الحياة الدنيا والآخرة. فالرفاه والخلود الابديان هما محصلة لمجموع المفاهيم والانعكاسات للفهم البشري العام والخاص وهذا الفهم يخضع ويتأثر ويتشكل ويتبلور في عدة أشكال وصور واطياف واظلال تبعاً لمصالح الأنظمة السياسية وحبها للمال والنفوذ والسلطة، فاذا سعد العقل والجسد، فالروح تلقائياً مصيرها السعادة والخلود!

فرنسا تتناسى حقوق أنسالها وحقوق المواطنيين المهاجرين ومن أهم تلك الحقوق هي الغاء التمييز العنصري ونبذ العنف وعدم ممارسة قتل النفس البشرية خاصة منها السوداء و الملونة وأيجاد حلول للبطالة , وما مظاهرة العمال والفلاحين الا دليل على نفوق السياسة والدعاية التي تتبعها حكومة فرنسا .

غطرسة فرنسا ضد شعوب العالم الثالث وجرائمها في إفريقيا على سبيل المثال : الجزائر وروندا أضافة الى ذلك مشاركتها في اعمال غير اخلاقية ومنها خطف أو قتل علماء او مفكرين أو ثوريين, ففرنسا اختلط حابلها بنابلها ولم تعد تهتم باخلاق الدولة المتحضرة ولايهمها الا مصالح بعض المستنفذين والمستغلين لجهد الانسان وماله وفكره ومنهم بعض الفرنسيين , أو قادة العالم الثالث.

ففرنسا قتلت واغتالت زعماء إنسانيين كرماء ونسكا واتقياء وعلى راسهم الشهيد الراحل إبراهيم الحمدي واخيه وشابتان فرنسيتان في صافية صنعاء في الحادى عشر من أكتوبر عام 1977م , فاذا كان في صفاء صنعاء تقتل النفس فماذا يحدث في لاصفاء صنعاء القبلي والبعثي والاسلامي وكذلك في باريس و في القارة الافريقية!.

لقد ضحت فرنسا ظاهرياَ بشابتان لكى تجني ثروة لكنها فقدت الكرامة والعزة والشرف والأمانة وفقدت الأمن والثروة والبارجة النفطية واسواق العطور, كذلك جنت الخطف والجرئمة المنظمة والغير منظمة من نفس العصابة التي قتلت الشهيد الحمدي واخيه وكذلك الحال حصل مع السعودية وامريكا والعراق فالمثل يقول " الخيانة تاتي من من تثق بهم وهم لايحملون المواصفات الاخلاقية ومن المنافقين المقربين للهئيات العلياء". فهذا ماحصل لامريكا والكويت وفرنسا والسعودية من دعمهم اللامحدود لعراق الطاغية صدام وهذا ما يحصل الان مع نظام صنعاء الجائر وماسيحدث من قتال في الشرق الاوسط بين امريكا وتحالف الغرب ضد اسرائيل نتبجة لخيانتها لهم أمنياً وتكنولوجياً وأستخدام أراضيهم اوكار لصراعاتها مع الاثنيات الاخرى فالخيانة والمكر لاينتجان الا خراب ودمار لفاعليهما.

كل وسائل الأعلام المسموعة والمرئية والمقرواة الفرنسية واليمنية لم تعط الجماهير أي معلومات عن الشابتان الفرنسيتان, ولم تعرف الجماهير الا بعض الشائعات وكذلك بعض من شارك أو شاهد أو دبلج وفبرك الوقائع و الاحداث أكدوا للجماهير أن الشابتان الفرنسيتان هما شذراء وعلوم السروريتان.

ارتعب سكان قدس الحجرية عندما وصل اليهم الخبر ولكنهم استغربوا لأن الحكومة وأجهزات الأمن والحكومة لم يقبضوا على على السيدتان الفلاحتان , وأكثر الناس أعتقدوا بأن الفرنسيتان هما مواطنات من الجزائر أو تونس او المغرب او موريتانيا.

بعد بضع سنوات الحكومة اليمنية الجائرة قبضت على ابن قدس عيسى الناصري ومجموعة كبيرة من الحوريون أنصار الله الشرفاء وقتلتهم ودفنتهم على حسب الاخبار في باريس والبعض الاخر يقول بانهم اختطفوا من قيبل قبائل مثلث برمودا ومازالت جثمان الناصريين والحواريين مخفية لوقتنا الحاضر.

العالم اصبح عاجز أن يحقق في الجرائم لان السلطة الرابعة ترغب في عولمة الجرئمة وتلعب على الاذهان من أجل خلق عجز لم يسبق له مثيل في كسر مناصرة الحقوق وتجريم المجرم لتؤكد القول العسكري " الحسنة تخص والسئية تعم" .

ومن عجائب الحادي عشر من سبتمبر عام 2001م , تعيين السيدتان شذراء وعلوم السروريتان على رأس قائمة المعينيين من قيبل الحكومة اليمنية لمكافحة الارهاب بالتنسيق مع الولايات المتحدة الامريكية .

وعندما قرأة الخبر بخصوص هذا التعيين أصبت بالذهول وسئلت نفسي هل هناك من سر من اختيارالحكومة للمتهمتان بقتل الشهداء الحمدي وعيسي الناصري ورفاقهم لهذا المنصب. بالطبع ليس الا المزيد من الخداع والحيل من أجل المزيد من التمويه لأخفاء جرائم النظام وكذلك من أجل الاستمرار في نفس النهج المتمثل بالقتل والارهاب واستنزاف موارد الوطن بالباطل واجهاد القوات المسلحة والأمن في الحماية الاسطورية لشخص الرئيس والمسئوليين الذين مارسوا القتل والنهب والفساد وارتكبوا كل الموبقات.

ومن اجل دبلجت الاحداث وفبركتها خرجت القبائل تنشد موالها الشهير " دفيس الدفيس علوم وشذراء السروريتان تكافحان الارهاب يالله ياللطيف , نعم للديك نبائعه لحكم البلاد والعباد ونقتسم معه الرغيف ."

رفض الديك الاغراءت لأن أثناء المبائعة أظهرت معظم القبائل عدم رغبتها بالعيش المشترك والحياة الكريمة كما اكدوا بانهم يرغبون في الحصول على الامتيازات والمكافأت والمساعدات الخارجية من غير اي جهد يذكر أو يبذل. ثم أضافوا له قائلين "أن ارتكاب الجرائم فيه الرزق والغنائم".

حينها هز الديك لهم ذيله وفرد جناحيه وتحول الى صقر يطير عالياَ في سماء الفضيلة واللاقتل يكافح ويدعو الخالق أن يطهر قومه في الدنياء قبل الآخرة.

بعد مرور الايام حضر المحقق الفرنساوي درهم المجيدي وكان في جعبته ملفات مزورة واثمة من دولة واق الواق اليمانية والسامية فحقق وفحص وترمم على كوزي وبوزي واختل عقله من الكذب والتدليس والتهريج للمملكة السامية الواقواقية ففقد عقله وانهارت أعصابه وقطع أصبعه ثم صمت وأختفاء.

كان ذلك جزاءه لأنه غبي ولم يفهم المسألة ولم يؤمن كذلك بالمساءلة , فلقد شاركها جرمها وعرها ولكنهم لم ولن ينتهوا من المعضلة.

ثم صرخ الديك وقال لسركوزي وعشاق الجريمة وكوزي" يامدعي المجد التليد , من قال انك حررت العبيد , فانت ايها السيد عبد لرغباتك ونزاعاتك وانت التيس العنيد". ومن أجل أن تفيق من وحلك ووهمك خذ تعويذة السيدة شذراء بنت أوئيس السروري والمكتوب عليها " هو وانا والنجم والمطر وقوس قزح ونقيل الجواجب والشرف نرسل اليك القوى الخفية لمرجانا ولمنجرف, وتعويذتنا لا باب فيها ولا طرف, وسوف تذر علي حقلك لتعيد ماجرفته سيول عل-يافا قبل المنعطف,وكذلك لتفتيت الجرائم من ذاتك وعقلك,وروحك المنحرف ".

و في الختام لنا الحق أن نتسأل ونسئل هل الشابتان شهيدتان أم كانتا لأبن الاحمر وملك السكر كالنرويجية للمتعة والزينة والبصق والتلف, ثم فريستان اضيفتا الى متحف التحف.

This tragedy is old and still ongoing. What has changed is there are new tools and implementations, which they used against students as well as citizens.

The strategies and mechanisms, as well as tactics used include violent oppression, as well as various forms of psychological warfare, including economic, political and social. This is done both openly and in secret. Therefore, their seasoning and poisons change as they continue to destroy the spirit and flesh.

For example, they accuse them that they are the ally of global socialism on Arab and Islamic systems, so they accuse them of national and humanitarian treason, in addition they accused them of religious treason, therefore, they consulted the religious people to have the permission of killing them. Then, they judged them and killed them due to the yuppies protocols of darkness. They killed them, aiming to stop the wheel of development and the preservation of the minority interests and their selfishness and aggressive authority.

The situation has not improved at the end of the 1970’s, 1980's or after the theoretical unifying the country, which was announced on May 22, 1990. So, they used the students as black sheep in civil wars or wars against the People's Democratic Republic of Yemen. Their aim was to eliminate them because they carried the light and education as well as that they are from the Al-Hojaria region or Taiz or central regions. By doing so, they protect the army because most of the army is from Zaidiyyah tribes. This act is the omnipotent proof of their racism, crime and brutality.

This dilemma of students’ problems involves racial and sectarian nature inherent in the mind of the obscurantist. Their future plans for the students is for calamity because the students' sin that they are the lovers of science, knowledge and life with its virtues, and because they are prophets and messengers of civilization, justice and equality.

The quantity and quality of scholarship is distributed for associates and affiliates, far from the standard of honest competition, rates and skills. What remains is distributed to the students to eliminate them from the country for a period of up to four or five years, in order to lose their productive and active age. Then, they return after graduation to the dark judgments of being baath, socialist, nationalist or islamist or imperialist or other accusations for leaving the country or facing the death. These accusations, which are trumped up and fabricated , are used to ban the educated from being involved in the system. They eliminate them of participation in decision-making. Despite that, the state soldiers, army units and rulers have relations and cooperation with the Russians, the Arabs and the Americans among others. In addition, the state does not possess or consider of real developmental programmes.

The problems of removing the salaries and scholarships of the students is a deliberated case and also part of terrible, frightening, and brutal corruption, which is widespread in the state's institutions and appears not only at schools, ministries, institutions of education but also in the Ministry of Finance, Foreign Affairs, embassies and other government's organs apparatuses associated with mentioned organizations A bribe is necessary in the regime and is a part of its behaviour and doctrine. The exploitation of positions is easy and natural, so the regime gains money and it protects only its individual interests. It also assaults the rights by looting and banditry, where salaries, scholarships and fees of students are deposited in foreign banks for three months and their benefits go for gangs in the diplomatic corps in embassies. It also cuts off a small amount e.g. two dollars from each student. They explain that the exchange rates of the dollar against the riyal are in change. This is disgraced work, because the salaries of students sent reinforcements to the embassies of the full amount, and the announced information to students according to a law of Education and Higher Education Ministries under the issue of foreign mission said to payment of scholarships in American Dollars and in advance.

We also see the corruption and inequality that there are students that have four salaries and they are delegated from more than one ministry. On the other hand, we observe students drop proceedings under the omission or defect in the computer, the case omissions and imbalance lasts for three or four years.

The policy of cutting off students' or the staff salaries is a statement that is taken from the proverb hunger you dog he follows you. Further more, before you became attacked you should start your attack in order to stop them of asking and struggling for their civil rights and providing the equality and equitable distribution of wealth for all, as well as stopping students from participation in decision-making. Hence, full surrounding is a duty under the principle attacked before they are preparing for confrontation.

The objective of starvation also is a psychological preparation to create new conditions to extort students and use them for inhuman jobs. In addition, to sell them in the local, regional and international slave market. The Yemenite modern system based on begging and trading land, honour and rights. Their ignorance and stupidity make them blind to see the wealth in the land and people, and they do not know how to manage them to benefit from its' eggs, milks, fruits and brains. So they sell the expensive things to earn the cheaper, which is the money, which they spend it for their selfish purpose. By this behaviour, attitude and mentality all is lost .

Recently, they cut off and banned the students from their scholarships as well as jobs and privileges and they distributed and gave only for those who want to give. They kill students by their hands as well as across international criminal mafias. Hence, many students have disappeared or lived without any human emotional feelings. The condition of students is a tragedy in abroad and inside the country. They are in between a rock and a hard place. Where does your train drive and lead science, the homeland and us?

The followed solutions by the corrupt regime are a palliative for a short time by sending delegates from the ministries for disguising. Nobody gains anything from the followed procedures of solving the dilemma of student except the delegates, who benefit from travel allowance, the leeway and spend their objectives. Finally, they declare through their false media that the problem is solved and they eliminate corruption and spoilers. Although the solutions must begin at home and no need for traveling, the delegates from the ministries are the useless people of knowledge and science and are gainless and deadly.

I am neither pessimistic nor optimistic, but pessoptimist, and when the train starts working for the establishment the state of institutions and law my optimism will achieve the optimum and maximum.

There is nothing good comes by the unfair and corrupt as well as their institutions. For instance, in the embassies there are diplomats, who are murderers and the government protect them, they are fugitive from other tribes, because the revenge is a legal things in the state. In addition, embassies is full of sorts of whom are blind, prostitutes and thieves, who believe in the doctrine of vice. This is the same-called technocrat from the ruling and those who are illegal investments internationally and dealing with other nations Mafiosi. They fled laundering and criminals in the eyes of the world and even mafias. They become with their nations money in a history and in dilemma. Certainly, the end such these groups are the dustbin of history.

Problems after graduation are harsher and worse than before graduation. Some of absolvents had harm and hard life, so few of them immigrate and most of them accept inappropriate jobs, which are not related to their level of education, morality and ethics. When the absolvents morally fall, they become psychologically able to do anything and become acceptable be the authority too, unless he will be thrown into unknown determination to face million harmful obstacles as well as brutal and wild characters.

To homeland, students, scientists and citizens the almighty God says “help one another in goodness and piety, and do not help one another in sin and aggression". We do not have any choice except fighting and struggling. Both ways are the best thing for the emancipation of where we are, and God and humanitarian law gives us the rights to proceed.

Brother, sons and, friend, student, professor's partners, farmers and workers we should in solidarity working together to better ourselves and homeland. My brother student in life and path you need only to demand full rights for yourself as human beings and citizens. If your only demand for salary and scholarship it is what the corrupt authority wants, and it is not going to give you it or deliberate and debate with you of it. So, demand your full rights to get a part of it. Finally, you must hitch you wagon to a star, stand up with the voice of the people, which is the voice of God and strike while the iron is hot.

Brother, student and teacher this is your case and it is in your hands to absorb and understand it. If you believe in what it contents then, you should spread and distribute it to all Yemenite students in the World as well as to students' unions, federations and associations of Arab World and the globe. In addition to international human rights organizations. This is the first step in the journey of a thousand miles.

I am glad to send to your Honourable Minister and Ambasador this letter in reference to the previous 17 political and fictional articles published in Al-Mistakable Weekly Newspaper. These articles were published in issues from Montreal, Canada in Volumes Nos. (525, 529,531,532-541,545,548 and 549), 2002. The documents, which are related to the historical period of the Yemenite Civil War of 1994, and other several sources of information regarding humanitarian activities to stop the war were all in attempts to restore peace in that region.
