The few days we don’t hear gunfire or explosions, we feel really happy."

Shield Pakistan’s civilians from the horrors of living inside a human rights-free zone.

Dear M.T. ,

Northwest Pakistan, including the Swat valley - once known as the "Switzerland of Pakistan" for its scenic and natural beauty - is now the center of a deadly triangle between the Taliban, Pakistani army forces and U.S. drone attacks.

Relentless fighting between these groups has left millions of civilians homeless and unable to care for their families. Countless more have lost their lives in this appalling, human rights-free zone.

As Parveen, a girl's school teacher who now holds her classes in a tent after the original school building was bombed by the Taliban, sees it: "The few days we don't hear gunfire or explosions, we feel really happy."

The innocent men, women and children trapped in the middle of this violence are not acceptable casualties of war. The harm caused to them during such indiscriminate attacks is a clear reason why we must draw a line now.

Act now to ensure that the civilians of northwest Pakistan won't be forgotten.

The human impact of conflict in Pakistan

We created the website eyesonpakistan.org to help give private citizens and policy makers access to these previously inaccessible conflict zones. Our thinking was that if we could help people visualize the extent of the violence and human rights abuses in the region, then decisive action would be taken to correct it.

In just a matter of weeks, thousands have visited the website and by using our interactive maps have been able to see the destruction of Pakistan's schools, hospitals, and homes with their own eyes. The BBC, Huffington Post and other news sites have reported widely on our efforts to expose abuses committed against civilians in the region.

Now that attention is finally starting to focus on Pakistan's civilians, we must ensure that clear action steps will follow.

Your support means that we can continue to provide compelling imagery and analysis of human rights abuses in Pakistan. This research reinforces our case that the Pakistani and U.S. governments must do more to protect human rights in their strategies for northwest Pakistan.

With your help, we can keep our eyes on Pakistan's civilians, even when it seems like the rest of the world has forgotten them.

Thank you for taking action,

Christoph Koettl

Thu Jul 29 08:22am PDT: By Sean Leahy: There's a lot of animosity in the NHL these days. Between fans. Between teams. And sometimes between executives.

Whether it's Max Talbot calling Alex Oveckin a "douche", or the Brian Burke/Kevin Lowe feud from a few seasons back or Sean Avery(notes), well, against anyone, the hate around the NHL is something that helps promote it.

Hatred between the fanbases of franchises has existed forever in the NHL. Toronto and Montreal, Edmonton and Calgary, New York and New York, and Detroit and San Jose are just some of the rivalries that pique interest around the league, and not just among those fans that are living and dying on the two points up for grabs..

Outside of rivalries, there are certain teams that, no matter the circumstance, don't feel the love by majority of fans around the NHL. Of course, in this age of the Internet and social media, fan outrage can be expressed everywhere and just do a Google search of "[Insert team here] sucks" and that will keep you busy for hours.

Yesterday, Sports Illustrated posted their "25 Most Hated Teams of All Time" list yesterday with the 1974-75 Philadelphia Flyers coming in at No. 4 behind the '92 Dallas Cowboys, 1988-89 Detroit Pistons and the 1986 University of Miami football team.

But who would be candidates for the most hated teams in the NHL today?

Our choices are after the jump.

Pittsburgh Penguins. When you've won a recent Stanley Cup and are the center of various conspiracy theories ranging from the rigging of the 2005 NHL Draft to referees turning a blind eye every chance they can to Gary Bettman somehow being Sidney Crosby's(notes) father, you're not going to be very popular by fans around the league. This business of them being involved in yet another Winter Classic ain't helping things either.

Detroit Red Wings. Like the Penguins, the Red Wings have won a Stanley Cup in the past few seasons to go along with their three rings since 1997. With success comes jealousy from others and Detroit's consistent reign atop the NHL's hierarchy, along with playoff battles with the Colorado Avalanche and San Jose Sharks, has bred much contempt towards the organization.

ept_sports_nhl_experts-790809316-1276551696.jpg?ymRYDTDDaXjE.WEv

Washington Capitals. They have one of the league's biggest stars in Alex Ovechkin(notes), whose on and off the ice incidents this past season garnered some negative press and turned fans and some media against him. The Caps also have an owner who isn't afraid to say what he feels. Combine that with a fan base accused of hopping on the bandwagon post-2005 and you're going to have some fans that were overjoyed when the Montreal Canadiens eliminated them in the first round this past postseason..

Toronto Maple Leafs. The 2001-02 team was dubbed "The Most Hated Team in Hockey" by SI's Michael Farber (and ranked No. 22 on their list) because of former players like Darcy Tucker(notes), Shane Corson and Tie Domi, the Leafs are reviled by many because of their brash general manager Brian Burke; their extremely passionate fan base and because of the magnitude of their exposure, especially on Hockey Night in Canada telecasts.

Philadelphia Flyers. The blueprint of the team hasn't changed since the Broad Street Bullies days of the 70's and having the likes of Scott Hartnell(notes), Dan Carcillo and uber villain Chris Pronger(notes) is really the perfect recipe for not receiving the warmest of welcomes when entering arenas on the road.

Those are our five choices of team's that draw the most hate in today's NHL.

Who would you say is currently the most hated team in the NHL?

Biblical Numerology: Holy and Unholy Numbers

Most of the world’s great religions also maintain that numbers contain hidden meanings that hold the secrets of the universe. Each number is also associated with certain gods, goddesses, colors, flowers, gemstones and of course, superstitions.

The Number 1

In Islamic, Jewish and Christian religions the number 1 is associated with the one God. For medieval alchemists and metaphysicians the number was associated with the Philosopher’s Stone, the unknown catalyst that was thought to transform base metals magically into gold.

The number 1 is also associated with Allah, Aphrodite the Greek Goddess of Love, Apollo the Greek God of Communication, Diana the Roman Goddess of the Hunt, Vesta the Roman Hearth Goddess, Frey the Norse Hearth Goddess, Jehovah, the Egyptian God Neter and the Chinese God Pangu.

The number 1 is associated with the colors red, crimson, scarlet and cherry.

A former guard at the Belzec death camp who is accused of participating in the killings of more than 430,000 Jews during the Second World War has been charged in youth court.

Samuel Kunz, 88, was charged in German youth court, a state court in Bonn said, because he was 20 when he is alleged to have started working at the camp in occupied Poland in January 1942. German law says people between 18 and 21 can be tried as minors or adults.

A judge will have to decide which court Kunz will be tried in, court spokesman Matthias Nordmeyer said.

Kunz was indicted last week.

He is the third-most wanted Nazi on a list maintained by the Simon Wiesenthal Center.

The court documents released Thursday allege that Kunz was involved in all aspects of the camp, including getting prisoners from trains to gas chambers, and, ultimately, throwing their corpses into mass graves.

Kunz is also accused of "personal excesses" in the shooting deaths of 10 Jews.

"In July 1943, the defendant is accused of having shot two persons who had escaped from a train going to the death camp and had been captured by guards," the court statement said.

He is alleged to have killed eight other prisoners who had been wounded by other guards between May and June 1943.

"The defendant then took the weapon from the other guard to shoot the wounded victims to death," said the court statement.

Interest arose in Kunz from the case of John Demjanjuk, who is currently on trial in Munich for allegedly being a guard at the Sobibor camp in Poland.

Prosecutors said Kunz and Demjanjuk trained at the Trawniki SS camp.

Evangelical pastor dabbled in diamonds

The Bethel Christian Community Church on Henri-Bourassa Boulevard in Montreal has about 400 members. (CBC)

CBC NEWS: July 29, 2010: A popular evangelical pastor in Montreal with a long list of creditors - ranging from his parishioners to a zoo - had his eyes set on the lucrative diamond trade, according to a CBC investigation.

A popular evangelical pastor in Montreal with a long list of creditors - ranging from his parishioners to a zoo - had his eyes set on the lucrative diamond trade, according to a CBC investigation.

Mwinda Lezoka took steps to establish himself in the international diamond business, while he amassed as much as $1.5 million in debt at the expense of his parishioners and clients, who have now launched dozens of lawsuits against him for defaulting on loans.

During the years Lezoka ministered to his parish at the Bethel Christian Community Church in Ahuntsic, he also studied gemology, and appeared to head a Kinshasa-based export agency specialized in diamond trading.

Mwinda Lezoka studied diamond trading. (CBC)

Lezoka, 47, signed up for a weekend workshop on diamond grading in 2009 at the Montreal School of Gemology, according to the institution's president.

"He was just like a normal, regular student, except I was a bit surprised to have in my class a gentleman who was a pastor, and interested in diamonds," said Odile Civitello. "But I know he's African, so this is not surprising that someone from the Congo would have an interest in diamonds."

CBC News has obtained a business card listing Lezoka as director general of a diamond export agency in Kinshasa, Congo's capital.

Lezoka carried business cards advertising his diamond agency. (CBC)

The agency had a valid vendor's licence at one time, but according to the former secretary general of the Ministry of Mines in Congo, it has now gone bankrupt.

The pastor also spoke about the diamond trade with people in his entourage, according to a former associate.

"He showed me a small quantity [of diamonds], a sample if you will," that Lezoka carried around in a handkerchief, said Abdo Malalaoui, a Tunisian businessman who once collaborated with the pastor on a housing project in Africa.

Lezoka told him he got the diamonds in Congo, said Maalaoui.

When CBC News reached Lezoka by phone earlier this week, he wouldn't comment on the allegations, but offered to make an appointment at a later time.

Preacher faces long list of lawsuits

Diamond trading is the latest twist in the strange story unfolding around Lezoka, who is described by followers as a passionate preacher with a powerful touch.

He is named as the defendant in a dozen lawsuits filed by former parishioners, contractors hired to do work for him, and Parc Safari, a Quebec zoo near the U.S. border.

According to legal documents filed at Quebec Superior Court, Parc Safari is suing Lezoka and a corporation registered under his name for almost $1 million.

A former colleague, who is a minister, is also suing Lezoka after he borrowed money to "save his church."

Gaétan Paquette's family lent Lezoka $150,000. (CBC)

Gaétan Paquette, a minister with the Pentecostal Assemblies of Canada, arranged for his father-in-law to lend Lezoka $150,000 a few years ago.

After his father-in-law died earlier this year, the Paquette family took steps to recoup the money. When they managed to contact Lezoka, he said that "he was sure that my stepfather had told him 'Well, if I ever died, keep my money,''' Paquette said. "But that was never in written form."

At least two dozen former parishioners are also pursuing Lezoka for unpaid loans, some borrowed against mortgages and credit cards.

Sexual, financial improprieties alleged

Lezoka, who formerly worked as a pastor within the United Church of Canada, has already settled one lawsuit with the organization after the two parted ways in 2001.

The church suspended the pastor for having an extramarital affair while leading a congregation, and cut off all parish funding over allegations of financial impropriety.

Lezoka was suspended for six months in 2000 and ordered to seek counselling after the church found him guilty of carrying on an affair with a parishioner.

"He was asked to apologize publicly, which he did," said Rev. Shaun Fryday, chair of the Montreal Presbytery for the United Church of Canada. "He acknowledged his wrongdoing, for lack of a better word."

Lezoka was reinstated in 2001, but was investigated again for financial irregularities that emerged during a forensic audit.

"There were things like remittances to the federal government and Revenue Quebec that had not been made for a number of years. Pension plans, group insurance had not been paid. There was an outstanding claim from one of the secretaries that she was owed back wages," said Fryday.

"You couldn't see where the money went, or it was spent on programs that weren't part of the budget. They simply disregarded them."

In 2002, Mwinda and his congregation voted unanimously to cut ties with the United Church because of its support of gay marriage and the ordination of homosexual ministers, Fryday said.

Lezoka parted ways with the church without paying back a $12,000 loan, Fryday added. The money was fronted from an emergency fund for pastors in financial trouble.

The church sued Lezoka - and settled out of court in 2006, after Lezoka agreed to pay back $0.50 on the dollar.

RCMP Commissioner William Elliott gestures during an interview in his office in Ottawa in Senior RCMP officers, including Commissioner William Elliott, say they are working through their issues, following complaints about Elliott's management style, according to an internal memo. November 2009. (Pawel Dwulit/Canadian Press)

CBC News : July 28, 2010 : Senior RCMP officers, including Commissioner William Elliott, say they are working through their issues, following complaints about Elliott's management style, according to an internal memo.

The memo, obtained by CBC News, is signed by Elliott and other top RCMP officers, including deputy commissioners Tim Killam and Raf Souccar. Killam and Souccar were among those who complained to the public safety minister and to the Prime Minister's Office about Elliott's conduct.

The memo, sent to the force, states that the senior brass is "working through the issues underlying the complaints."

In it, Elliott and the others say they welcome the workplace assessment of the force that Public Safety Minister Vic Toews has ordered to be done by an independent adviser and that they will co-operate "fully and with candor."

"We are part of the RCMP family. As with any family, there are occasions where we have difficulties," the memo says.

CBC News first reported this week that some officers have accused Elliott of being verbally abusive, closed-minded, arrogant and insulting. One complaint described an enraged Elliott throwing papers at an officer.

The Opposition Liberals weighed in on the issue on Wednesday, saying Prime Minister Stephen Harper triggered the current "chaos" by naming a civilian to head the force.

Liberal MP Scott Brison said the prime minister is "in hiding" at a critical time when leadership is needed to fix the force.

"Mr. Harper appointed a civilian to head up the RCMP and should be accountable for the chaos caused by that appointment," Brison told reporters in Ottawa on Wednesday.

"It ought to have been obvious to the Harper government that appointing a civilian to head up the RCMP was a recipe for disaster."

Toews seeks 'quick resolution'

Toews called all the people involved "very competent individuals" and noted the force has been going through "some pretty dramatic changes."

The RCMP has faced strong criticism following the damning conclusions from separate public inquiries into the death of Robert Dziekanski and the 1985 Air India bombing.

"I know both the commissioner and I know the others involved who have brought forward the complaints," Toews said. "I respect all of them, and I think what I want to see is a quick resolution of this issue in a mature manner."

But Brison said Toews must have been aware there was a problem among the ranks of the Mounties but didn't act until the complaints became public.

Elliott a 'man of extremes': former deputy

Former senior deputy RCMP commissioner Bill Sweeney defended the officers who spoke out, saying many felt the commissioner's behaviour was "inconsistent" with the courteous, respectful conduct front-line officers are expected to maintain.

Sweeney said members of the force were criticized in 2006 for not speaking out after reports emerged about former commissioner Giuliano Zaccardelli's management style.

"Today we find a cadre of senior officers who are acting, I believe, with the most honourable intentions, saying, 'We're in a situation that we find intolerable and we feel compelled to raise it and to deal with this head on and not to ignore it and quietly go about our business,'" the recently retired Sweeney told the CBC's Alison Crawford in an interview on Wednesday.

While he called Elliott a "strong advocate" for many issues facing the force, Sweeney also spoke of the commissioner's "rather unique" management style and refused to comment on their working relationship.

"He's a man of extremes," Sweeney said of Elliott. "He's extremely dedicated. He's extremely intelligent and committed to the task at hand, but sometimes he pays less attention to the conduct that others find offensive and have complained about."

Last year, Elliott attended a $44,000 course in Arizona that dealt with behavioural barriers to success.

He subsequently acknowledged to employees in a memo that he learned his actions "can and did have unintended, sometimes negative impacts."

Elliott, the first civilian to lead the Mounties, was appointed by the prime minister in July 2007 after Zaccardelli resigned over his conflicting testimony at the Maher Arar inquiry.

At the time, then-Liberal public safety critic Sue Barnes decried the appointment, labelling Elliott a "Conservative political insider" who was "intimately involved" with Zaccardelli's testimony.

But Elliott, who previously served as national security adviser to Prime Minister Paul Martin, also received high praise from a former Liberal cabinet minister, David Collenette.

Pettersson has long been one of the PGA Tour's almost-there stars, a guy who has the talent to win but not necessarily break away from the pack. He's also part of a long lineage of portly golf champions, from Craig Stadler to Mark Calcavecchia to John Daly. He's listed at 5-11, 195 pounds, which seems like someone might be shaving a few strokes off that figure. And to hear him tell it, getting fit was the worst thing that could happen to him.

In 2008, his game came together, as he won once, made 25 of 29 cuts, and earned a tidy $2.5 million in prize money. And then he did the unthinkable: He decided to lose a little weight and come back even stronger in 2009.

"I was thinking: What can I do to get better?" he said over the weekend. "Obviously I was a little overweight and I thought, well, I’ll get fit. I actually lost 30 pounds and my game completely left me. I guess the timing of the swing and everything was thrown out and I really struggled in '09."

That's like saying country-fried steak and gravy might be a tad unhealthy. In 2009, Pettersson made only 15 of 29 cuts with but a single top 10, and earned "only" $564,000. But, once off the fitness bandwagon and back on the Krispy Kreme truck, or whatever his poison of choice may be, Pettersson found his game again. He's already got four top-10 finishes and he's nearly quadrupled his 2009 earnings.

He's also of a much calmer mindset. He was looking at missing the cut on Friday afternoon at the RBC. So to ease his nerves, he headed to the St. George clubhouse. "And I walked in the locker room and Jay Williamson had all the scenarios written out, and he’s like, ‘Grab a beer.’ Before you know it I’d had seven beers (and) made the cut." Two days later, he was the champ.

"I’d love to be fitter," Pettersson said, "but I’m not going to go down that road again."

Hey, whatever works. He's already a millionaire. And if he can figure a way to teach a gut-momentum golf swing, he'll be a billionaire.

Terrorism, the origins and sources

This is a forthcoming book published by Trafford Publishing Company. It’s a must read book, shocking, yet interesting!

This is the most interesting poetic, yet a powerful book, which captivates readers’ interest by hinting on real issues, but keeps readers in suspense. The most powerful of the literature is about the incidence of human organ harvesting from disappearing University students at the University of Sana’a in which the author hints an expose about his espionage strategies that he employed while working as an insider with those who participated in human organ trafficking cartels. The culprit, who was a Sudanese worker, was mercilessly using his cult of assassination of University students whose body parts sold around the world for thousands of dollars. A story that stunned the world when BBC world service anchored the arrest of Adam Mohammed, the Yemen University of Sana’a student holocaust executioner who was both a murderer and a victim of the cartel involved with human organ trafficking.

Terrorism and human organ trafficking are serious human rights issues, which have to be taken seriously worldwide. Therefore, governments have to work harder in halting such heinous practices among peaceful, yet unsuspecting citizens in their countries.

Breastfeeding puppies: Don’t use it to attack African values

By Jenn Jagire

THE breastfeeding of puppies might not be such a big issue elsewhere as Ugandans think. I have seen animal lovers or animal rights activists who might argue otherwise. What Ugandans might call bestiality is practiced by pet lovers in the West, for example, the kissing of pets, etc.

Of course as a Ugandan, I take a big issue with a woman being forced to breastfeed puppies. In addition, I do not condone violence against women, either by husbands and jilted lovers through acid attacks, the political system, relatives or simply the physically or financially stronger people. However, to blame Nathan Asoloi’s action of forcing his wife to breastfeed puppies solely on the culture of bride price might be limiting.

There may be other reasons for Asoloi’s power action. His action was particularly troubling because it gives those who believe that nothing good can come out of Africa the opportunity or moment to justify their stereotypes.

The Western NGOisation and internationalization of African women’s rights actually denies grassroot African women the voice that they are looking for. It was Alupot who took the initiative to speak out about her bad relationship with her husband. It was also her experience. But right now Alupot’s situation has suddenly been NGOised and internationalised so that other perspectives are coming out of it.

The attention, the seizing of, or appropriation of Alupot’s voice is driving out her potential as a subject to claim agency to address her situation meaningfully. Why were these NGOs and international organisations, who have all the facilities for research not in a position to prevent something like that?

A representative of an international agency from a Western perspective will start generalizing the culture of Alupot’s people as primitive to justify a civilising mission.

Suddenly, someone has suggested that because Abraham Lincoln who was a white man ‘freed’ Black slaves, it should take a man to free a woman. This is problematic in many ways.

African-Americans will be shocked to read such a statement published in Africa. If Abraham Lincoln took the initiative to sign into law the outlawing of slavery, it must have been because of the resistance that the former slaves put up against slavery.

The resistance of the former slaves should be held dear by anyone who reads race into the attitudes of those who take messianic credit for ‘liberating’ slaves. Such a statement about the power of whiteness in liberating Black African slaves should be most demeaning to Africans or their descendants everywhere.

People are free to think what they want, but such thoughts should not continue reproducing what colonialism or imperialism had universalised as the ultimate knowledge for everyone on the planet earth.

Bride price may have its limitations as we have debated before, and many people, especially Africans recognise so. But, should it take a person with a Western perspective to forcefully show us how to change it? Don’t we also need an African or local solution to what Asoloi did to Alupot?

Where is our independence from colonialism? It is quite tempting to agree with pan-Africanists that those international organisations, whose representatives in Africa are from the West, still have the agenda to reproduce differently what colonial projects did not have time to complete effectively.

As Africans, we have to decolonise our minds, so that we do not speak about our people, what even most white supremacists do not have the guts to speak. We should not simply say things that make us look like we hate ourselves, even as we anticipate funding for development activities on the continent.

The writer is a Ugandan living in Ontario, Canada

SYNOPSIS FOR INTER-AFRICAN DEVELOPMENT VOL. 1

CHAPTER 1. Addresses land use and management in Africa
In Africa, land use has become one of the most seriously contested problems ever to be reckoned in the history of Africa. Land is both security and economic confidence for the many landless or marginalized persons in the world. African governments’ concerns should be obligatory in finding lasting solutions to resolve issues of land degradation resulting from human activities and land management. How then do we frame land issues? The issues that can be addressed are such as ecological foot prints and tragedy of the commons. Therefore, African countries need to harness reforestation programs in order to subdue the ever-increasing risks posed by global warming and desert encroachment.

CHAPTER 2.
Addresses the history of grabbing fertile lands. The history of land extortion dates back to Europe and continued in Africa through colonial era. Land grabbing has its economic implications: Access to land and violent conflicts in Africa have economic as well as political implications. Thus, because of the economic and political implications, Land represents security and economic confidence. Therefore, reforms in land ownership must be implemented so that the landless may also have a share in land tenureship.

CHAPTERS 3, 4, 5, 6 & 7 .
Addresses democracy and economic development issues towards sustainability as well as identifying culprits of development retardation; IADF’s strategies for regional economic development; development modalities. Modalities that need to be adopted by African governments are such as: import substitution model strategies, export lead growth industrialization, emulation of Chile’s example, Mexico’s example, the adoption of India’s software industry style, Japan’s Export Growth Model, importance of an Industry’s location, and other infrastructural development modalities. Address issues arising from economies that are driven without democracy and security. And the importance of approaching sustainable development with single currency.

CHAPTERS 8,9and10 .
Address the benefits of single currency, the importance of printing single currency within Africa and emphasis upon how assets for banking system through IADF should be implemented.

CHAPTERS 11, 12, 13 & 14 .
Address how establishing free trade can impact economic growth in neighbouring countries. One of the modalities of approaching such trading policies is the Harmonization of consumer price indices; harmonization of continental trade indices with emphasis on Terms of trade, which is an index of the price of a country's exports in terms of its imports. “The terms of trade are said to improve if that index rises”; modalities for harmonizing trade indices. Trade harmonization is an equal treatment among trading partners; and how world trade affects poor nations’ economy and how to avert from goods dumping.

CHAPTERS 15, 16,17,18,19,20,21,22&23. Addresses how trade imbalances are defined by unfair trade, issues pertaining to trade-related intellectual property rights (TRIPS), Political issues with emphasis on Governance issues and Guidance, theories behind the Inter-African development fund (IADF), issues as to whether an all-African senate political system will help solve Africa’s political instabilities?; emphasis on infrastructure development and how this will impact economic development; questions authorities, as to whether governments are part of the problems and solutions? Questions how disparate and desperate are African nations? How disparity can be narrowed between the rich and the poor or whether other alternatives can be applied? And makes analysis on how adopting Ricardo’s comparative advantage may impact manufacturing and then how it may lead to sustainable economic development of the regions.

CHAPTERS 25,26,27 & 28. Addresses natural resources, as conflicting resources; what are the factors and ambivalence to African problems? Emphasis on health crises in Africa with the advent of HIV/AIDS and encouraging new ideas and discoveries in health sciences in which claims for cure of HIV/AIDS have been pronounced, which is something Africa could take pride in.

The major challenges African governments will face are the issues of globalization and the internal self-inflicted oppressive forces of bad politics. Governments must resolve land issues that generate political as well as economic issues. Also, whether or not blocs of nations can envision solidarity economics; implement political union and economic independence through economic democratization, as there are some economic blocs that already exist.

SYNOPSIS FOR INTER-AFRICAN DEVELOPMENT VOL. 2

This book postulates inventive or innovative philosophies for African governments, environmentalists, entrepreneurs, commercial farmers and peasants on how to enhance their attitudes in participating in the corridors or as insiders of globalization. Also, it makes comparative analysis of development trends in Africa to those in other developing countries and what developed countries can offer African countries with regard to industrial as well as technological developments in order to achieve sustainable economic development of the regions.

The major areas this book has addressed include GLOBALIZATION AND ENVIRONMENT, which lays emphasizes on the need for Protection of resources (Chapter 1) Benefits of economic integration (Chapter 2). Also, it tackles issues of Globalization that is currently under criticism (Chapter 3), and addresses Environmental issues (Chapter 4).

In the area of AGRICULTURE, how can Sustainable agricultural development be achieved? (Chapter 5)

CHAPTERS 6,7,8,9,10,11. Maury Chaykin, a prolific and award-winning actor recently seen in the hit TV comedy Less Than Kind, has died.

CBC Arts : July 27, 2010: Maury Chaykin, a prolific and award-winning actor recently seen in the hit TV comedy Less Than Kind, has died.

The veteran actor died in Toronto early Tuesday, his 61st birthday, his agent Paul Hemrend told CBC News. No cause of death was confirmed, but Chaykin had been battling kidney problems.

Chaykin, born in Brooklyn, N.Y., to an American father and Canadian mother, studied drama at the State University of New York in Buffalo.

He moved to Toronto to join the theatre scene in the mid-1970s, and the city would remain his base for the rest of his life.

Ferne Downey, national president of the actors union ACTRA, hailed Chaykin for his contribution to Canadian film and TV on Tuesday.

"Maury was an infinitely gifted actor who has left us an incomparable body of work that will be cherished for many generations to come," she said.

"We will miss his passion for his craft and his love and commitment to building our Canadian industry."

An actor with more than 120 credits, Chaykin regularly appeared in the films of Atom Egoyan (Adoration, Where the Truth Lies, The Sweet Hereafter, Exotica, The Adjuster) and Don McKellar (Cooking with Stella, Blindness ).

Other prominent appearances include Whale Music, Dances with Wolves and the TV film Canada's Sweetheart: The Saga of Hal C. Banks. He played the titular detective in a Nero Wolfe series and appeared in Entourage in a notable send-up of movie mogul Harvey Weinstein.

In Whale Music, based on the novel by Canadian Paul Quarrington, who died earlier this year, Chaykin played the washed-up rock star who spends his time mourning his dead brother (played by Paul Gross) and writing music for whales. That performance - part pathos, part comedy - earned him a Genie Award for best actor.

In an April interview on CBC's cultural affairs show Q, Chaykin said he didn't consider "character actor" a negative label.

"It's been a real blessing over the years," he said. "I don't know what to attribute it to, other than creative producers and directors who see different things in an actor. And they've seen different aspects of me.

"There have been attempts to typecast me. But I've been in control of that ... by protecting myself financially, so that I'm not in a position where I have to take the same kinds of gigs all the time. The word 'no' is my protection.

"But I've been so happy with the way things have panned out, and the kind of roles that I've been offered have been interesting to me and those are the ones that I accept," he said, listing roles such as Desmond Howl in Whale Music, Uncle Arthur in Diane Keaton's Unstrung Heroes and the wealthy entrepreneur in Egoyan's The Adjuster as his favourite roles.

He also earned Gemini awards for his spots in La Femme Nikita in 1998 and CBC's At the Hotel in 2006.

Most recently, Chaykin starred as Sam Blecher, the driving-instructor father of the main character Sheldon Blecher, in the edgy, coming-of-age comedy Less Than Kind, produced by Mark McKinney.

"I'm having a great time," Chaykin said of the production, which he hailed as a "group of people who all love what they're doing."

Chaykin is survived by his wife, actress Susannah Hoffmann, and their daughter, Rose.

SYNOPSIS FOR INTER-AFRICAN DEVELOPMENT VOL 1

Adress democracy and economic development issues towards sustainability as well as identifying culprits of development retardation; IADF’s strategies for regional economic development; development modalities. And the importance of approaching sustainable development with single currency
